Our Values Respect | Belonging | Accountability | Transparency Department Denver Sheriffs Job Summary Under minimal supervision, performs supervisory functions over professional nursing and support staff in an inpatient unit, specialty clinic, or treatment program in various patient care settings. Under general supervision, adheres to the American Nurses Association (ANA) standards of professional nursing and performance, and the ANA Code of Ethics (2015) to provide care to all patients. Applies critical thinking, evidence-based policies, procedures, guidelines and competence to collaborate with the health care team to promote excellence in patient safety and quality outcomes. Utilizes the Theory of Human Caring and Caritas in daily practice. "Jean Watson, PhD, RN, AHN-BC, FAAN, Founder / Director, Watson Caring Science Institute." The Correctional Care nursing staff provides clinical care at either Downtown Detention Center or the Denver County Jail. These environments of care have a higher level of clinical acuity and environmental hazard than inpatient and ambulatory nursing settings based on the nature of the facility. The detention centers employ a high level of security, which impacts daily working conditions, including both personal and institutional safety and clinical operations. Environmental awareness, critical thinking, and decisive, decision-making skills are required in the correctional care setting.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program that satisfies the licensing requirements of the Colorado State Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses
  • 1-3 years Typically, a minimum of two (2) years of professional nursing experience in a patient care setting
  • Required less than 1 year Correctional Care experience preferred
  • RN-Registered Nurse - DORA - Department of Regulatory Agencies Required
  • BLS-Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) - AHA - American Heart Association or American Red Cross Required
  • ACLS-Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA - American Heart Association
  • Adherence to Standards of Professional Nursing Practice/ Process / Performance [ANA Standards addendum- signed] and accrediting body standards.
  • Strong understanding and display of the principals of customer service as it applies to patients, staff and the community
  • Ability to assist in identifying ways to promote quality patient-centric care and maintain Denver Health’s high level of patient satisfaction. [Nursing Vision Statement]
  • Ability to work effectively in a team matrix environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels and in a cross functional environment.
  • Ability to work closely with multidisciplinary staff, charge nurses, clinical nurse educator(s), and Nursing Managers, providers,, executive leadership to provide care to patients with respect to their uniqueness using informed judgment, competence, individual qualifications, and collaboration with the health care team.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of assessment findings as they relate to the disease process and continuum of care.
  • Proficient in EHR
  • Basic Office Suite skills preferred

Responsibilities

  • Oversite of department/unit for assigned shift including adherence to policy (20%)
  • Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes infant, pediatric, and Adult clinical care (10%)
  • Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes preventive care, emergent care/crisis response, triage skills, general acute care skills, and behavioral health skills (10%)
  • Maintain a broad and comprehensive nursing scope of practice that includes specialty skills such as eating disorders, oncological care, and IV therapy (10%)
  • Delegation of duties amongst nursing and support staff (10%)
  • Preparation of daily staffing assignments (10%)
  • Oversite of patient care, admissions, and discharges (10%)
  • Oversite of daily operations and escalation of communications (5%)
  • Mentoring (5%)
  • Evaluation and documentation of performance of nursing staff (5%)
  • Facilitate patient flow (5%)
