Requirements

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in the State of Kentucky.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or University.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • A minimum of two years of Cardiovascular Laboratory experience or two years of critical care experience.
  • Strong customer service skills- able to demonstrate patience and understanding, ensure customer satisfaction, and resolve customer complaints.
  • Superior organization skills- manages time effectively, keeps tasks appropriately prioritized, able to pay extreme attention to detail for long periods of time.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills- responsive, informs constituents of process, pleasant to work with, educates and provides timely, accurate information; can build effective, strong working relationships others through trust, communication, and credibility.
  • Skilled at remaining calm during periods of stress.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
  • Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and organizational policies.
  • Able to critically think through complex situations, process improvements, and evidence-based practice.
  • Able to assist others in developing good reasoning skills.
  • Able to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care to patients in the C.V. Laboratory.
  • Administer medications, observe for complications, and intervene during emergencies.
  • Scrub to assist the Physician during all procedures (except PTCA).
  • Run the Code 300.
  • Demonstrate accurate utilization of the new CERNER platform (E.H.R.).
  • Regularly check email for corporate and department communications.
  • Display knowledge and comply with the National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Implement an age-appropriate plan of care in conjunction with the health care team per Scope of Service.
  • Attend all UofL Health required educational programs and Learn (KNOW) Modules.
  • Administer medications and IV fluids with 100% accuracy.
  • Use IV book to reference unfamiliar drugs before administering.
  • Check patency of IV site(s) for successful drug and fluid infusion.
  • Complete nursing chart forms completely with accurate and pertinent information.
  • Check narcotics according to policy and document wastage 100% of the time.
  • Supervise nursing care of the patient in the cardiovascular laboratory.
  • Assist in the general preparation of the patient before procedure, including assuring the nursing data base is on the chart.
  • Continually anticipate patient’s needs, observe and assess patient closely for chest pain, E.K.G. changes and complications.
  • Exercise good judgment in making decisions, notifying physician and in implementing patient care.
  • Supervise nursing care of the patient post cardiovascular laboratory procedure.
  • Supervise care of the patient post procedure including close observation of catheter entry site, assessment of vital signs, pulses, and post cath instructions.
  • Act as a liaison with patient’s family, communicate with families during or after procedure as necessary and provide emotional support.
  • Provide nursing care of patient post catheterization/P.T.C.A. when hospital bed is not available; transport patient to hospital bed and give report providing continuity of care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Cardiac Catheterization procedures and equipment.
  • Scrub to assist the Cardiologist during procedures as needed.
  • Operate the injector accurately, with speed and without assistance 100% of the time.
  • Operate the imaging equipment accurately and rapidly to assist the Cardiologist to visualize cardiac anatomy.
  • Be familiar with 90% of the different catheter wires and balloons used in procedures.
  • Complete the log book accurately and completely 100% of the time.
  • Contribute to the productivity and cost effectiveness of the department operation.
  • Maintain stock supplies of medications, IV fluids and tubing and charge for items used in patient care 95% of the time.
  • Maintain professional demeanor during procedures.
  • Perform duties in an organized and efficient work flow.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in work schedule and duties.
  • Participate in the mandatory call schedule, completing the schedule and scheduled cases prior to the end of the work-day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in delivering high quality health care services in a professional, compassionate, and courteous manner while respecting the dignity and individuality of each person.
  • Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times according to established procedures.
  • Follow the Standard of Performance.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously answering assigned telephone lines within three rings identifying self at all times.
  • Assist visitors and patients in giving directions and information.
  • Communicate effectively and courteously with all visitors, physicians, patients and employees.
  • Introduce self and position to patient, families and visitors at all times.
  • Assess environment for safety hazards and report hazards to appropriate supervisors.
  • Collaborate with other departments and outside agencies to meet the identified needs of the patients and the organization.
  • Responsible for RT/RN/CVT student and JH new employee instruction as it relates to JH policies and procedures and Cath Lab orientation processes.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Sheath removal and maintain hemostasis.
