About The Position

Since 1980, Tidewell Hospice has proudly served families across southwest Florida with compassionate, dignified care. As a member of Empath Health, we help patients with advanced illness live meaningfully while supporting their families with warmth, expertise, and respect. Empath Health is currently seeking an RN PRN to join our team. The RN PRN will manage discomfort and provide symptom relief using specialized nursing skills related to palliative and end-of-life care. They will provide initial and ongoing assessment of the impact of the terminal diagnosis on the patient’s physical, functional, psychosocial, and environmental needs and activities of daily living. In collaboration with the other members of the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), the RN PRN will develop, implement, and update the individualized plan of care, initiate appropriate preventive and rehabilitative procedures, and initiate referrals to other services, requesting complimentary services as needed. Additionally, the RN PRN will educate patient/resident, family, and caregivers regarding disease process and decline, palliative interventions, care giving, dying process, and safety practices.

Requirements

  • Graduate of approved nursing program and current unrestricted Florida RN license.
  • Valid and current CPR certification required.
  • Minimum one year experience in an acute-care Hospital environment providing direct patient care; previous experience as a Hospice RN preferred.
  • CHPN certification is strongly encouraged within three years of employment.
  • BSN or MSN preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a licensed physician, manages discomfort and provides symptom relief using specialized nursing skills related to palliative and end-of-life care.
  • Provides initial and ongoing assessment of the impact of the terminal diagnosis on the patient’s physical, functional, psychosocial, and environmental needs and activities of daily living.
  • In collaboration with the other members of the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG); develops implements and updates the individualized plan of care, initiates appropriate preventive and rehabilitative procedures and initiates referrals to other services; requests complimentary services, as needed.
  • Educates patient/resident, family and caregivers regarding disease process and decline, palliative interventions care giving, dying process and safety practices.
