J51 and J53 are 24-bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Units specializing in the care of post-operative open heart and complex cardiac patients transitioning from the ICU. Each unit features private rooms with continuous bedside monitoring and telemetry. As two of only three stepdown units caring for Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) patients, nurses gain advanced experience with innovative cardiovascular therapies and procedures. These fast-paced units care for patients recovering from CABG, valve repair and replacement, minimally invasive and robotic heart surgery, LVAD implantation, and other cardiovascular procedures, as well as patients with heart failure, arrhythmias, and myocardial infarction. Nurses collaborate with specialized multidisciplinary teams while developing advanced clinical skills, providing patient education, and supporting successful recovery and discharge. A caregiver in this position works rotating days/nights from 7:00AM – 7:30PM or 7:00PM – 7:30AM.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR licensed military RN experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record, document and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments.
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and their families.
