Mercy Hospital’s Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a 12-bed unit that provides cardiac critical care and cares for open heart surgery patients. The CVICU has great teamwork and is known for its inclusion, integrity, empathy and caregiver longevity. This unit also has low readmission rates, low falls and high patient satisfaction ratings, participates in community activities, and is starting a mentor program. The CVICU Nurse Manager encourages RNs to gain certifications and actively participate in the Nurse Practice Council and Professional Congress.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Professional Nursing (Diploma, ADN, BSN program)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certifications through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (upon or within one year of hire)
  • If in a Critical Care area an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through American Heart Association (AHA) Certification must be presented upon hire or within first year of employment
  • One year of current acute care RN experience OR military RN experience

  • Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care.
  • Implement, monitor, evaluate, update and revise patient care plans.
  • Monitor, record and communicate patients’ conditions.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments
  • Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assess and coordinate patients’ discharge needs.
  • Educate patients and their families.
