The 2 CUB Unit at The Heart Hospital is a fast-paced environment caring for high-acuity cardiac and vascular patients, including those with CHF and immediate post-op heart bypass and valve surgeries. This Cardiac Universal Bed (CUB) model allows for care across Telemetry, PCU, ICU, and CVICU levels. Patient ratios are 1:4 for Telemetry, 1:3 for PCU, 1:2 for ICU, and 1:1 for CVICU (immediate post-op or unstable ICU patients connected to specialized devices). The unit has 20 beds and focuses on skills leveling, caring for ICU devices such as Impella, IABP, CRRT, EKOS, and lumbar drains. It is supported by world-renowned surgeons, is a magnet hospital, and has an active Unit Based Council. As a Registered Nurse, you will oversee patient care using a professional practice model, which includes patient assessment, recognizing health issues, creating and evaluating care plans, and assessing patient responses. You will also be responsible for securing patient travel, understanding patient needs, helping prevent issues, following the Texas Nursing Practice Act, and delegating tasks based on patient condition and team competencies.
