About The Position

This unit is a 26-bed inpatient behavioral/mental health unit specializing in psychiatric and substance abuse disorder patients. The average length of stay is 7-10 days. The patient population will include depression, anxiety related disorders, substance abuse, and other mental health related behavioral issues. RNs will care for patients requiring refocusing and regaining mental health, inpatient rehab for substance abuse, and detoxification. The nurse to patient ratio is typically 1:7 for regular BH patients, but may adjust to 1:1, 1:2, or more depending on staffing needs and patient acuity. The RN utilizes the nursing process within the ANA scope of practice, incorporating patient-family centered care principles to assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and discharge. The RN provides quality patient care under the direction of the Nurse Leader according to Corewell Health policies and procedures, recognizing the impact of nursing care and patient/family partnerships on patient outcomes. The RN partners with and utilizes patient/family input and goals in planning the plan of care and develops teaching strategies for patients/families, documenting education and learning appropriately in the health record.

Requirements

  • Associates in Nursing
  • Bachelors in Nursing within 5 years
  • Graduates from a non-accredited school of nursing must have at least one year of acute care experience or at least two years of experience in a licensed health care role and must have successfully passed the NCLEX licensure examination.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Successful completion of a competency-based orientation program
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days

  • Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric care
