About The Position

The Assessment Center serves as the hospital's Emergency Department, functioning as a primary point of entry for a diverse patient population. The center primarily supports obstetrical patients throughout all stages of pregnancy, assessing and treating conditions such as labor, hypertension, diabetes, hyperemesis, preterm complications, fetal surveillance, and early pregnancy complications. Additionally, it treats gynecological, sexual assault, bariatric, oncology, and medical/surgical patients. The center is equipped to treat, stabilize, and transfer patients requiring a higher level of care.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of registered nursing is required
  • Current licensure by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing is required

Nice To Haves

  • Emergency Room or Obstetric experience highly preferred
  • Relevant Certifications preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assesses, monitors and evaluates patient status by observing the patient, noting data collected by other team members and analyzing this information to independently develop a plan of nursing care.
  • Develops a detailed plan of care, which includes patient / family education, based on initial and on-going assessment findings to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Communicates with patients, families, subordinate staff and peers to ensure that plans and associated interventions are understood, operationalized and revised, as appropriate to the patient’s age, culture, condition, and unique needs/circumstances.
  • Evaluates patient response to treatment and nursing interventions and if needed, revises the plan of care.
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians and other health care providers to achieve desired patient outcomes throughout the continuum of care.
  • Monitors patient progress and prepares patient for discharge, utilizing established clinical pathways.
  • Direct/coordinate nursing care in accordance with professional nursing practice standards.
  • Performs other duties assigned by Department management according to policies and procedures and the mission of Woman's Hospital.
