The Anesthesia Care Nurse (ACN) coordinates anesthesia care on Labor and Delivery at Butterworth Hospital, serving as a liaison between labor nurses and anesthesiologists. The role manages labor epidurals, including assisting with placement, dosing, and troubleshooting, and assists the anesthesiologist with spinal and general anesthesia in the operating room for cesarean sections and other obstetrical procedures. The ACN evaluates obstetrical patients upon admission and provides anesthesia-related education throughout the labor and delivery experience. An advanced degree is not required, and this is not a CRNA role. Butterworth Hospital’s Labor and Delivery unit has 28 private birthing suites, an 11-bed triage area, three operating room suites, and five recovery bays. It delivers an average of 8,000 babies annually. The position is part-time, with 24 scheduled hours per week, a night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., and work every third weekend. Two core schedule patterns are listed: Core 1 rotates Friday and Saturday in week one, Wednesday and Thursday in weeks two and three; Core 2 rotates Sunday and Monday in week one, Wednesday and Thursday in week two, and Friday and Saturday in week three.
