The Registered Nurse works in the 24-bed Advanced Care Unit (CT7B), caring for acutely unstable patients who do not meet Intensive Care criteria but require frequent advanced assessments and interventions. Patient populations include complex multi-trauma, uncompensated sepsis, continuous non-invasive ventilation, stroke, complicated withdrawal from alcohol or other recreational drugs, and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). The unit also includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where patients may be taken off medication under monitoring to induce seizure-like events and provide information to the Epilepsy Team. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3. The unit is fast-paced and team-oriented, working closely with physician partners and ancillary team members. Resources include a monthly Partnership Committee, a unit-based educator, a quality outcomes coordinator, two nurse supervisors, and charge nurses. Nurses perform full assessments at least every four hours and vital signs at least every two hours, provide continuous cardiac monitoring, and care for IV, arterial, central, and chest tube lines and other equipment. Common IV drips include amiodarone, diltiazem, insulin for DKA, dobutamine, heparin, and octreotide. The position requires an Illinois Registered Professional Nurse license, a Nursing Diploma, and more than one year of RN experience. ACLS must be obtained within one year and BLS within 30 days. The posting advertises a $10,000 sign-on bonus for eligible external applicants with more than one year of RN experience, with a three-year commitment. Compensation is listed as $38.93 to $63.35 per hour, dependent on factors including experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts, and compensation model.
