The Registered Nurse will work on CT7B Advanced Care, a 24-bed unit caring for acutely unstable patients who do not meet Intensive Care criteria but require frequent advanced assessments and interventions. Patient populations include complex multi-trauma, uncompensated sepsis, continuous non-invasive ventilation, stroke, complicated withdrawal from alcohol or other recreational drugs, and diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA). The unit also includes an Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU), where patients with seizure-like events may be safely taken off medication to induce events and provide the Epilepsy Team with information to guide treatment. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3. The unit is fast-paced and team-oriented, with close collaboration among nurses, physician partners, and ancillary team members. Department resources include a monthly Partnership Committee, a unit-based educator, a quality outcomes coordinator, two nurse supervisors, and charge nurses. Nurses perform full assessments at least every four hours and obtain vital signs at least every two hours. They provide continuous cardiac monitoring and perform or support Foley, IV, and NG insertions, as well as arterial line, central line, and chest tube monitoring and care. Equipment and therapies include IV pumps, feeding pumps, lift equipment, and commonly used IV drips such as amiodarone, diltiazem, insulin for DKA, dobutamine, heparin, and octreotide. The position requires an Illinois-licensed Registered Professional Nurse, a Nursing Diploma, and more than one year of RN work experience. ACLS is required within one year and BLS within 30 days, both through the American Heart Association. A $10,000 sign-on bonus is listed for external applicants with more than one year of RN experience who commit to three years.
