About The Position

Riverview Behavioral Health Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Nurse to join its Admissions team. The Admissions RN helps ensure a smooth, efficient admissions process and contributes to high-quality care by applying clinical expertise, attention to detail, and collaboration with patients, families, referral sources, and clinical teams. RiverView is a 62-bed psychiatric hospital in Texarkana, Arkansas, serving adults, geriatrics, and adolescents ages 11–17 with behavioral health and chemical dependency issues. The role works the night shift from 7:00 pm to 7:00 am, with rotating weekends. The RN reviews referrals and medical documentation, assesses patients for appropriate levels of care, coordinates admission decisions and processes, obtains physician orders, supports insurance authorization, and ensures appropriate follow-up for individuals who are not admitted. The RN also monitors patient status, maintains accurate records, and supports patient safety throughout the admissions process.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in Nursing or higher.
At least one year of experience working with individuals in a clinical or observational capacity; experience in the facility’s relevant specialty area is preferred.
Clear and active nursing license in the state.
CPR certification.
De-escalation/restraint certification; training is available upon hire and offered by the facility.
First aid certification may be required depending on state or facility requirements.

Responsibilities

Review medical documentation for admissions, complete medication reconciliation, and obtain admission orders from physicians.
Facilitate emergency transfers for patients whose medical conditions exceed the facility’s capabilities.
Review referrals from hospitals, facilities, and community agencies; assess medical and behavioral acuity; and respond within designated timeframes.
Respond to inquiries about the facility by providing appropriate information and recommendations.
Conduct assessments to determine the appropriate level of care within the facility.
Collaborate with medical and psychiatric personnel on recommendations and admissions.
Facilitate admissions, including assessments, consent, and inventories of patient belongings.
Verify insurance benefits and obtain initial pre-authorization for treatment and admission within payor timeframes.
Monitor patient status throughout admissions in accordance with facility policies and physician orders.
Use web-based programs to track and review referrals.
Promptly communicate projected admissions to designated internal representatives.
Ensure timely receipt of clinical information, including medical comorbidity information, from referral sources or patients.
Schedule and complete pre-admission assessments, consult with admitting physicians, and communicate disposition recommendations to patients or families.
Prepare and maintain accurate medical record documentation to support payor authorization at the requested level of care.
Admit patients into the registration and accounting system and complete required admission and consent forms.
Maintain a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude; prioritize patient safety and promptly address concerns or complaints.
Coordinate appropriate follow-up care and referrals for patients who are not admitted.
Conduct safety checks and provide supervision according to special precautions and individualized guidelines.
