About The Position

The Risk Manager position at Colorado Springs School District 11 (D11) is a key role within the Talent Management Department, with significant collaboration with the Finance Services Department, both falling under Strategic Operations and reporting to the Deputy Superintendent. This role is responsible for the primary management and oversight of the District’s risk management and safety activities. This includes the daily administration of the District’s comprehensive risk management program, covering Workers’ Compensation, General and Professional Liability, and Property and Vehicle insurance. The Risk Manager supervises claims management processes, handles insurance placements and renewals, and assists in identifying, developing, and mitigating risks to District assets, operations, and personnel. The position also manages the Risk Management budget, prepares financial and operational reports for leadership and the Board of Education, and ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and contractual insurance requirements. Collaboration with internal departments, legal counsel, insurers, and insurance pools is essential for overseeing claims investigations, litigation matters, and risk financing strategies. Additionally, the role promotes a culture of safety and risk awareness through policy development, training, and communication, supports oversight of risk-related programs, and acts as a liaison to insurance partners and professional organizations to enhance the District’s overall risk posture. The Talent Management Department focuses on creating streamlined systems and structures to support schools and departments, aiming to Empower Talent and Elevate Students. Other functions within Talent Management that collaborate with the Risk Team include Talent Acquisition and Development, Strategic Initiatives, Benefits, Leave, and Compensation/Operations. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, administration, education, or a related field (experience can be substituted for a degree).
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressive professional experience in program management, operations, administration, or a related professional field.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of leadership experience in supervising staff, leading project teams and/or managing programs or initiatives.
  • Knowledge of public school district operations, governance structures, and organizational practices.
  • Knowledge of program management and operational processes in an educational or public-sector environment.
  • Knowledge of district policies and applicable local, state, and federal regulations relevant to the assigned functional area.
  • Knowledge of data collection methods, reporting systems, and performance metrics used to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Knowledge of budget tracking and responsible resource management practices.
  • Knowledge of principles of inclusive and student-centered service delivery.

Benefits

  • Non-Recurring Pay: 8% of base salary in Non-Recurring Pay (distributed as 4% on November paycheck and 4% on May paycheck).
