This position is responsible for conducting investigations of State liability claims filed against the State and its employees. The role involves assigning claims to contract adjusters, supervising their activities, and ensuring the quality of claims management. It also requires continuous review of claims files, managing litigation aspects, scrutinizing legal documents, understanding applicable laws, and suggesting defense strategies. The specialist will coordinate with involved agencies and defense attorneys, develop defense plans, and keep relevant personnel informed of case developments. Additionally, the role involves authorizing settlements, attending mediations and trials, determining liability based on investigations and discovery, evaluating damages, authorizing settlements, and adjusting claim reserves. The specialist will also review and approve vendor fees and expenses, and maintain the accuracy of claims information and reserves in the division's data processing system, including diary system maintenance.
