This position conducts investigations into State liability claims filed against the State and its employees. The specialist will assign claims to contract adjusters for field investigation when necessary, negotiate and settle claims filed against the state and its employees, and work with assigned counsel to resolve and defend claims. The role involves supervising and directing contract adjusters' activities during investigations, ensuring the quality of claims management, and continually reviewing claims files. The specialist is responsible for all facets of litigation management, including scrutinizing legal documents, understanding applicable laws, and suggesting strategies to attorneys. They will also assist agencies in coordinating with defense attorneys, developing defense plans, and keeping relevant personnel informed of case developments. Additionally, the position involves authorizing settlements, attending mediations and trials, determining liability, evaluating damages, authorizing settlement offers, and adjusting claim reserves. The role also includes reviewing and approving vendor fees and expenses, and maintaining the accuracy of claims information in the division's data processing system.
