About The Position

Under the direction of the Risk Manager, this position supports Hall County Government’s risk-management and loss-prevention program as a professional staff member. The Risk Management Claims Specialist is expected to be self-motivated and interested in risk management efforts and responsibilities. Assigned programs may include claims management, incident reporting, driver programs, insurance renewals, data loss analysis and prevention, and risk management events. The Specialist assists in establishing and enforcing risk-management policies, conducting safety assessments, evaluating and developing training programs, and supporting loss-prevention efforts.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in business, Political Science, Safety, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of Risk Management and/or Claims-related experience.
  • Valid Class C drivers’ license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
  • Knowledge of risk-management principles, loss-control techniques, and methods for developing and implementing comprehensive programs.
  • Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation laws, liability coverage, claims processes, and industry best practices.
  • Experience working with TPAs, insurers, adjusters, medical providers, and legal counsel.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data, identify trends, interpret claim metrics, and develop actionable insights.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple claims and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, ordinances, policies, standards, and regulations.
  • Proficiency in claims software, RMIS systems, and Microsoft Office (Excel required).
  • Ability to compile, organize, prepare, and maintain records, reports, and information accurately.
  • Independent and collaborative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical and statistical calculations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret reports, claim files, regulatory documents, and related materials.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Must be in the office 5 days per week.

Responsibilities

  • Manages end-to-end workers’ compensation and commercial liability claims, including claim intake, data entry into third-party administrator systems, investigation, documentation, reserve monitoring, reporting, and claim resolution.
  • Ensures accuracy and integrity of all claims data and prepares recurring and ad-hoc reports on claim activity, costs, trends, and performance metrics.
  • Conducts safety assessments, participates in root-cause analyses, evaluates training needs, and supports development of new or revised training programs to promote county-wide safety, loss mitigation, and risk reduction.
  • Tracks and analyzes loss data to identify high-risk operations, cost drivers, and opportunities for reducing workplace injuries and liability exposures.
  • Leads the Risk Management Committee in evaluating incidents, determining causes, and recommending corrective actions consistent with County policy.
  • Supports the Risk Manager in managing the County’s Subrogation Program.
  • Assists in preparing materials and evidence for hearings, lawsuits, and insurance investigations.
  • Coordinates the County’s random and “for cause” drug/alcohol screening program, ensuring policy compliance and proper communication of procedures.
  • Supports annual insurance renewals, audits, and other risk-related projects.
  • Ensures compliance with state workers’ compensation laws, and all County policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidential records and uphold strict standards of data privacy and accuracy.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and skills by participating in training, reading industry publications, and pursuing ongoing development opportunities.
  • Completes administrative duties and special projects assigned by the Risk Manager.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
