The Gaston County Risk department collaborates closely with more than 30 county departments supporting safety programs and ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in business administration, Risk Management or Safety/Occupational Health
  • Four (4) years experience in a public sector or private sector safety/risk-related role.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • The individual selected for this position will be required to participate in a rotating on-call schedule every other week to support safety and risk management needs as the arise.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, coordinates, and delivers County-wide safety, risk management, and regulatory compliance training programs.
  • Conducts safety inspections, facility audits, and compliance reviews to identify hazards, evaluate risks, and make relevant recommendations.
  • Supports fleet and driver safety programs, including motor vehicle record reviews, driver training initiatives, accident analysis, and the use of compliance monitoring software and risk management systems.
  • Serves as a resource to County departments, supervisors, and employees regarding safety practices, risk management procedures, workers' compensation, and regulatory requirements, while maintaining positive and collaborative relationships with departments to support effective communication and risk management efforts.
  • Assists with the administration of workers' compensation, liability, automobile, and property claims by maintaining records and reports, coordinating documentation, and supporting claim investigations and resolution.
  • Analyzes claims, incident, and loss data to identify trends and make recommendations for loss prevention and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Investigates workplace injuries, vehicle accidents, property damage incidents, near misses, and liability claims; prepares findings and recommendations to reduce future losses.
  • Coordinates pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, return-to-duty, and follow-up testing activities.
  • Coordinates and supports safety committee activities, emergency preparedness initiatives, evacuation drills, and other programs designed to promote a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Monitors and evaluates compliance with OSHA, NCDOL, DOT, and other applicable safety regulations and requirements.
  • Assists the Risk and Liability Officer in developing, implementing, and evaluating County-wide risk management, safety, and loss control programs.
  • Supports the administration and continuous improvement of initiatives designed to minimize risk, promote workplace safety, and reduce organizational loss.
  • Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.

  • The anticipated hiring range for this position $33.80 - $40.14
