About The Position

Zurich is seeking a Construction Risk Engineer Consultant for the Casualty Lines of Business. This is a remote role based in Minnesota, supporting the upper Midwest region, with an ideal location in Minneapolis and surrounding areas. The position includes a company car, with expected travel of 30% to 50% and overnight travel of 20% to 30% depending on business needs. This role can be filled at either the Risk Engineering Consultant or Senior Risk Engineering Consultant level, at the manager's discretion. The role involves applying Zurich risk engineering solutions to construction customers to reduce losses and improve risk management outcomes, leveraging Zurich's tools and services for customers purchasing Workers Compensation, General Liability, and Auto Liability insurance. Responsibilities include delivering consultative services, identifying exposures, evaluating risk control gaps, developing mitigation recommendations, building customer and business partner relationships, partnering with Construction Underwriting, identifying fee-based service opportunities, developing and delivering presentations and training, providing risk improvement advice, conducting loss investigations, and assisting customers with safety plans, QA/QC programs, construction defect investigations, building envelope reviews, and moisture mitigation strategies. Active participation in local construction industry associations is also expected. A Motor Vehicle record background check is required due to the company car.

Requirements

  • Risk Engineering Consultant: Bachelors Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area OR Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering area AND Experience working in a team environment Relevant experience in the assessment of risk, based on what is required by LOB specific competency standards
  • Senior Risk Engineering Consultant: Bachelors Degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering or relatable field. OR High School Diploma or Equivalent and 8 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering or relatable field. OR Zurich Certified Apprentice, including an Associates degree and 6 or more years of experience in the Risk Engineering, Safety/ Risk Management, Construction Field Operations, Engineering, or relatable field. AND Experience working in a team environment

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced knowledge of construction safety, operations, quality management, and associated risks, exposures and controls.
  • Experience with large commercial construction, data center construction, and regulated or non-regulated fleets.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills for customer-facing and internal work products.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and consulting skills with the ability to engage effectively at both corporate and project site levels.

Responsibilities

  • Apply Zurich risk engineering solutions to construction customers to help reduce losses and improve risk management outcomes.
  • Leverage Zurich’s risk engineering tools and services to improve customer risk and general account management of customers who purchase Zurich Construction Insurance products such as: Workers Compensation, General Liability and Auto Liability.
  • Deliver high-quality consultative services, including exposure identification, evaluation of risk control gaps, and development of practical risk mitigation recommendations.
  • Develop and maintain positive customer and business partner relationships, collaborating to create appropriate service plans.
  • Partner with Construction Underwriting to evaluate and assess existing and prospective customers.
  • Identify opportunities to provide fee-based services that support customer risk mitigation and performance improvement efforts.
  • Develop and deliver advanced presentations and risk management training for customers and internal business partners.
  • Providing appropriate risk improvement advice, conduct loss investigations (including both trend and root cause analysis), and implementing risk improvement programs.
  • Assist customers with corporate and project specific safety plans, QA/QC programs, construction defect investigations when applicable, building envelope reviews, and moisture mitigation strategies.
  • Actively participate and engage in local construction industry associations.
