About The Position

Under the direction of the Risk Manager, the Risk and Safety Coordinator is responsible for the safety of all Casino Del Sol Properties, including all CDS team members, guests, and the public while onsite during all events, concerts, and all public and private activities. Promotes every effort in accident prevention, fire protection, and health preservation. Provides tactical safety directions to all CDS departments and drives compliance to protect all CDS properties as needed. Supports property safety programs and assures safety compliance with Tribal, Federal, State, and Local regulations by team members, vendors, and contractors. Operates in a fast-paced casino and hospitality environment with frequent interactions with guests and employees.

Requirements

  • Intermediate knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook) and internet research methodology.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with safety program management and OSHA regulatory requirements for general industry.
  • Knowledge in Fire Extinguishers, AED units, First Aid Kits.
  • Knowledge of safe work behaviors, interpretation of safety data and demonstrated ability to evaluate safety risks.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with casino operations and gaming regulatory environments.
  • Ability to clearly present information through the written reports and presentations.
  • Possess excellent and visible organizational skills and demonstrate the ability to work on multiple projects in an effective manner and under deadline pressure.
  • Demonstrated maturity and poise; ability to employ perfect discretion in sensitive situations.
  • Ability to handle team member complaints effectively with appropriate resolution.
  • Ability to influence and work with non-direct reports, peers, and management to gain alignment and achieve goals in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Ability to interpret SDS sheets, OSHA standards, ADA requirements, and internal policy frameworks.

  • High school or General Equivalency Diploma.
  • Minimum of two (2) years directly related experience in the field of environmental, health, and safety, OR an equivalent combination of education and progressive, relevant, and direct experience may be considered in place of the minimum educational/experience requirement indicated above.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the company’s insurance carrier.
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 hr. and 30 hr. -certificate, or must be able to obtain certificates within one year of hiring.
  • First Aid AED/CPR Certification.
  • Must be able to work any shift, weekends, holidays, and special events, and overtime as needed.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening in accordance with company policy.
  • Must have employment eligibility in the U.S.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a valid gaming license/background check.

Responsibilities

  • Performs incident response to accidents, injuries, and near-miss investigations. Assembles and analyzes compliance, safety performance statistics (leading and lagging), accident trend data, and develops and implements initiatives to drive improvement.
  • Conducts job walks to inspect electrical installations, equipment installations, portable heater use, pool area, including pool equipment, and chemicals. Coordinates and facilitates fire and emergency drills, monitors checks of the eye wash station, fire extinguishers, other required Environmental Health and Safety Checks, and maintains departmental online database chemical lists. (Safety Data Sheets).
  • Assists in the execution of enforcement of dangerous or hazardous corrections, conducts audits, and defines opportunities for improvement to ensure exemplary regulatory performance to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), regulatory agencies, and enterprise guidelines.
  • Assists in the design, development, and facilitation of regulatory training programs scheduled for operating team members. Conducts on-the-job training for safety awareness and compliance, including new Team Member Safety Orientation, hazardous communications, defensive driving, emergency action and evacuation plans, fire extinguisher use, and other applicable programs.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of effective safety and health risk and hazard management methods, designs, procedures, and programs. Researches and standardizes procedures to improve efficiency based on findings.
  • Supports project plans related to processes and equipment changes and improvements, as well as building additions and modifications to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Manages environmental, health, and safety (EHS) projects that help produce continuous measurable improvements. Utilizes inspection checklists, apps, and centralized platforms for tracking inspection results, safety performance data, and corrective action plans property-wide.
  • Conducts immediate response to accidents, injuries, property damage, and guest incidents occurring on the Vahi Taa’am property.
  • Performs on‑scene assessments, gathers statements, photographs, and evidence, and ensures accurate and timely incident documentation.
  • Coordinates with Security, Surveillance, and Facilities to stabilize hazards and prevent recurrence.
  • Initiates Workers’ Compensation and guest claim processes in accordance with enterprise policy.
  • Works with responsible department(s) in resolving Hazardous Condition Reports, as well as all other health and safety hazards, which pose an immediate threat to team members, patrons, equipment, or buildings.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly safety inspections of gaming areas, entrances, restrooms, back‑of‑house corridors, and exterior walkways.
  • Identifies hazards related to slips/trips, lighting, equipment, ADA access, fire/life‑safety systems, and environmental conditions.
  • Ensures spill response, floor safety, and hazard controls are consistently maintained.
  • Ensures Vahi Taa’am operations comply with OSHA, ADA, Tribal, and internal safety standards.
  • Maintains accurate, audit‑ready records for inspections, training, incidents, and corrective actions.
  • Supports regulatory reviews, insurance audits, and enterprise risk assessments.
  • Ensures required postings, signage, and safety documentation are current and accessible.
  • Provides safety orientation and refresher training for Vahi Taa’am staff, including hazard recognition, PPE, emergency procedures, and reporting protocols.
  • Communicates safety alerts, incident trends, and risk‑reduction strategies to department leaders.
  • Supports bilingual (English/Spanish) communication to ensure inclusive understanding across staff.
  • Coordinates with Security and Facilities during fire alarms, medical emergencies, power outages, and building system failures.
  • Ensures AED and First Aid equipment is present, accessible, and inspected according to schedule.
  • Monitors floor conditions, equipment placement, ADA pathways, and housekeeping standards to ensure guest and employee safety.
  • Identifies and reports issues involving water intrusion, electrical hazards, HVAC failures, and structural concerns.
  • Verifies that vendors and contractors working on‑site follow required safety and compliance protocols.
  • Reviews incident trends to identify patterns and recommend targeted interventions.
  • Prepares weekly and monthly safety reports for Risk Management leadership.
  • Tracks KPIs such as incident frequency, corrective action closure rates, and inspection compliance.
  • Works closely with the enterprise Risk Management team to maintain consistent standards across all properties.
  • Supports cross‑property initiatives, audits, and training as assigned.
  • Serves as the on‑site safety and risk liaison for Vahi Taa’am leadership.
  • Assists in maintaining and communicating Emergency Action Plans, evacuation routes, and assembly points specific to Vahi Taa’am.
  • Responds to health and safety questions, concerns, and inquiries.
  • Creates and distributes safety bulletins, charts, and displays in relation to accident prevention, emergency reporting, first-aid, injuries, etc.
  • Leads a process for sharing learning and best practices throughout the property.
  • Moderates quarterly safety committee meetings (to include all enterprises and departments).
  • Investigates and assists departments with the implementation of safety committee recommendations.
  • Assists in the initial guest or employee injury investigations, including documenting incidents, interviewing witnesses, gathering initial evidence, and preparing initial reports to the Risk Manager.
  • Tracks and maintains initial records related to workers' comp claims, property damage, and liability claims, and follow-up reports.
  • Assists in insurance and regulatory agency inspections as needed.
  • Assists the Risk Manager with Human Resources and department supervisors regarding workplace injury investigations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the department.
