About The Position

WSP is seeking a Risk Analyst to join our Project Controls team in Washington, DC. The Risk Analyst supports the delivery of project risk and commercial management services as part of the Project Controls team. Working under the direction of a Risk Manager or Project Controls Lead, the role focuses on maintaining risk registers, supporting qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, and helping integrate risk outcomes with cost, schedule, and commercial controls. This is an early-career position suited to individuals developing foundational experience in project risk management, commercial awareness, and data-driven project controls on infrastructure, energy, and major capital programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s/master’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Risk Management, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of relevant experience in project controls, risk management, commercial management, or a related project environment.
  • Understanding of project risk management principles, including qualitative assessment and mitigation planning.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work with cost, schedule, and risk data.
  • Proficiency in Excel and comfort working with structured datasets; exposure to risk or scheduling tools is a plus.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document risks and assumptions succinctly.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks under guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Support the development, maintenance, and quality control of project risk and opportunity registers, ensuring clear cause–event–impact structure and appropriate ownership.
  • Assist in risk identification workshops, risk review meetings, and follow‑up actions, including preparation of agendas, materials, and summary outputs.
  • Track risk response actions and support Risk Managers in monitoring mitigation effectiveness and close‑out status.
  • Support the preparation of risk reports, heat maps, and dashboards for internal and client use.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of quantitative risk analysis (QRA / QSRA) inputs, including cost and schedule risk data under supervision.
  • Support data collection, assumptions documentation, and integrity checks related to contingency, confidence levels, and risk exposure.
  • Help align risk information with cost estimates, schedules, and change management processes to support defensible project forecasts.
  • Apply established risk management processes, templates, and tools consistently across projects.
  • Support documentation of assumptions, methodologies, and decisions in accordance with project and organizational standards.
  • Assist with lessons learned, continuous improvement activities, and adherence to risk management best practices (e.g., ISO-aligned frameworks as implemented on projects).
