About The Position

The City's Human Resources and Risk Management department is looking for an entry-level Risk Analyst I. In this role, you will master the foundational skills of public sector risk assessment, with advancement based directly on your skills and proficiency—not just "time on the clock." Under general supervision, the Risk Analyst will perform specialized duties in one or more of the City's Risk Management programs and other related duties as assigned. May be assigned to one or more of the following areas: safety, public liability/loss control, insurance, and disability management, may supervise paraprofessional and clerical staff and to perform a variety of tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Two (2) years of increasingly responsible professional and administrative/analytical work in risk management field.
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Insurance or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and Associate in Risk Management (ARM) certifications are highly desirable.
  • A Paralegal or Legal Assistant certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze and prepare safety, health, liability, insurance, and disability management information and statistical data necessary for planning and decision-making purposes and for report generation.
  • Conduct research to identify causative factors and recommend corrective action where required.
  • Prepare written reports and correspondence related to assignment.
  • Make oral presentations.
  • Conduct training presentations for City staff at various levels and locations.
  • Conduct surveys and investigations.
  • Maintain records and files.
  • Analyze accident and incident reports to identify any causative factors (when assigned to Safety).
  • Make recommendations for correcting unsafe conditions and actions where required (when assigned to Safety).
  • Identify, select and procure training resources related to safety programs in audio, video, and print form (when assigned to Safety).
  • Evaluate training materials and methods to ensure regulatory compliance (when assigned to Safety).
  • Provide training sessions in health and safety practices for employees (when assigned to Safety).
  • Schedule and coordinate training sessions (when assigned to Safety).
  • Conduct routine health and safety inspections (when assigned to Safety).
  • Perform ergonomic evaluations (when assigned to Safety).
  • Follow-up with supervisors and employees regarding recommendations (when assigned to Safety).
  • Maintain records and files of all training, inspections and incidents to assure compliance with City, State and Federal requirements (when assigned to Safety).
  • Assist in administering the City's self-insured risk management programs, including claims administration (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Conduct investigations into public liability claims (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Interview claimants and employees (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Work closely with the City Attorney and outside counsel in claim management (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Maintain records of losses, accidents, certificates of insurance, and other risk management related information (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Prepare insurance applications (when assigned to Public Liability/Loss Control).
  • Assist in the administration of the City's workers' compensation and disability management programs (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Develop, implement and administer an Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program for public safety employees (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Assist in ensuring that the City's disability management programs comply with Federal, state and local laws and regulations (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Work with the Public Liability/Loss Control division staff to ensure recovery from third parties (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Work with the Safety division staff in identifying injury trends and conduct accident investigations (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Work with the Employee Benefits division staff to ensure employees receive all disability benefits (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Work with the third party administrator and affected departments in managing workers' compensation claims (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
  • Maintain injury logs and files (when assigned to Disability Management/Workers' Compensation).
