Under general supervision, inspects infrastructure and right of way construction projects to assure compliance with approved plans and specifications; assures construction projects meet state and federal regulations, and Public Works Department (PWD) safety and quality standards. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, inspecting construction activities for compliance with approved plans, contract specifications, and Public Works Department (PWD) standards; performing onsite inspection of paving, drainage, sewer, water, concrete structures, sidewalks and ADA accessibility ramps; reporting deficiencies to supervisor. Reviews documents; performs technical review of plans and project specifications. Meets with contractors to discuss inspection issues and concerns; facilitates pre-construction meetings; interprets and clarifies state and local building and safety codes. Tests water and sewer main lines for environmental compliance. Recommends acceptance of project milestone completions. Monitors job sites, and enforces compliance to City policies, procedures, and safety standards. Follows all safety rules and regulations, and utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, equipment problems, and emergency situations. Maintains records and logs of inspection services performed. Reviews construction, paving and drainage plans for compliance with City construction standards. Supports the divisional operations with regular and timely attendance at work. Must have and maintain a cell phone for City use to hold this position. Supports the relationship between the City of Odessa and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
