About The Position

The Rigger 1 assembles rigging to lift and move equipment or materials at a construction project. The role involves handling rigging equipment and loads, supporting crane operations, assembling and disassembling cranes, and performing minor maintenance or cleaning of tools and equipment.

Requirements

• Minimum of 4 years of experience in the industrial construction or maintenance industry.
• Knowledge of complex and heavy rigging; changing crane booms and cables; electrical safety; ladder and scaffold safety; lifting machinery; wire rope basics; basic rigging; fire prevention; sizing chokers; load charts; cutting torches; and basic blueprint reading.

Responsibilities

• Load, transport, and unload rigging equipment, and assist in selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to the weight and size of the load.
• Attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures, such as beams, ceilings, and gin pole booms, using bolts and clamps.
• Attach loads to crane hooks using grappling devices such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains.
• Direct crane operators or hoisting engineers moving loads, using hand signals, a loudspeaker, two-way radio, or telephone to promote the safety of workers and materials.
• Set up braces and rig hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
• Assemble and disassemble cranes.
• Splice rope and wire cables to make or repair slings or tackle.
• Perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities on tools and equipment.
