RF Systems Deployment Engineer (5G / AI-RAN)

DeepSig Inc•Arlington, VA
•$110,000 - $170,000•Hybrid

About The Position

DeepSig Inc. is seeking an RF Systems Deployment Engineer to serve as the hands-on connection between its AI-RAN products and the customers, partners, and test sites that deploy them. The engineer will take products from the lab into customer environments by integrating and bringing up systems at field sites, supporting test events and demonstrations, and sharing findings with the engineering team. The role focuses on 5G RAN deployment and builds on radio and software-defined radio experience. Day-to-day work includes hands-on systems integration, troubleshooting, and optimization. Prior RAN experience is helpful but not required; RAN and machine-learning specialists are available to support deeper technical work. The position is based on-site/hybrid in Arlington, Virginia, with travel to customer and test sites as deployments require. Travel varies with deployment schedules and can peak at 25% during installs and test events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • At least 4 years of experience deploying, integrating, or supporting radio-frequency machine learning, software-defined radio, or other RF systems in real environments.
  • Significant hands-on experience with software-defined radios such as USRP or Epiq, or similar, and related RF hardware, including antennas, cabling, filters, amplifiers, power, and grounding.
  • Comfort with RF test equipment and measurement, including spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and power meters, as well as basic link-budget and interference analysis.
  • Working knowledge of wireless systems fundamentals, including OFDM, time and frequency synchronization, and practical effects of RF impairments on deployed systems.
  • Strong Linux skills, including networking, drivers, system configuration, logs, and packet capture; familiarity with programming basics and the ability to read, run, and adapt shell and Python scripts. A software engineering background is not required.
  • Experience with containers (Docker or Kubernetes) sufficient to deploy, configure, and debug containerized software in the field.
  • Willingness and ability to learn 5G NR and O-RAN deployment on the job, including gNB and O-RU configuration, PTP timing, fronthaul, UE attach, and basic performance validation.
  • Methodical troubleshooting skills, including the ability to isolate problems across hardware, RF, timing, network, and software layers and document findings.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills for working directly with customers and partners and collaborating in a small-company environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites, test ranges, and partner labs; travel varies with deployment schedules and can peak at 25% during installs and test events.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience deploying or operating 5G NR, LTE, or O-RAN systems, including srsRAN, OCUDU, OAI, or commercial gNBs, and PTP/SyncE timing chains and eCPRI fronthaul.
  • Familiarity with GNU Radio or similar SDR frameworks and IQ data capture and analysis workflows.
  • Experience with NVIDIA GPU platforms in deployed systems, including driver and container runtime setup, Kubernetes, and Helm.
  • Exposure to machine learning for RF, such as spectrum sensing or signal classification, and collecting and labeling RF datasets.
  • Field experience with CBRS, private 5G, or tactical communications deployments, including spectrum coordination and site RF surveys.
  • Experience integrating vendor O-RUs and radio hardware, such as Foxconn, WNC, Eridan, or similar.
  • Python or C++ experience beyond scripting, for building test and automation tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end customer and partner integrations of DeepSig software, including scoping deployments, configuring radios, timing and networking, installing and configuring the OCUDU stack and dApps, and carrying systems through acceptance.
  • Plan and execute site visits, including pre-visit surveys and bills of material, on-site installation and bring-up, over-the-air validation, and support during test events and demonstrations.
  • Bring up and troubleshoot deployed systems across antennas, cabling, RF front ends, SDR and O-RU hardware, timing and fronthaul, software stacks, and dApps.
  • Capture and analyze field RF data, including IQ recordings, spectrum sweeps, and link measurements, to validate performance, debug issues, and provide datasets to the ML team.
  • Reproduce field issues in the lab, isolate them to a subsystem, and provide well-characterized defects to the responsible software, RAN, or ML engineer.
  • Write and maintain deployment procedures, configuration baselines, site documentation, and runbooks to make installs repeatable and supportable.
  • Build and maintain lab test setups and integration benches with the lab engineer, including interoperability testing with partner radios, UEs, and test equipment.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for customers and partners during integration, translating their requirements and constraints into clear requests for the engineering team.
  • Support product managers and business development with demonstrations, trial deployments, and customer feedback on deployability and operability.
