About The Position

Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is seeking an entry to mid-level Electrical Engineer with experience in RF and Microwave hardware design to work on the Iris Radio within our Civil & Commercial Space Division. The Iris Radio is a software-defined radio designed for deep space missions. The role involves active RF hardware design at the component and PCB level, with opportunities to test and integrate designs. SDL provides a well-equipped test lab. A minimum requirement is interest and knowledge in receiver and LNA design, as well as transmitter and SSPA design. Additional knowledge of switch mode power supplies, digital control systems, and RF system testing is also required. The position emphasizes a strong work ethic, curiosity, intelligence, and cooperation with team members. Mentorship will be provided, and the selected candidate will be a respected key asset to SDL's mission. The Civil & Commercial Space Division is a leader in scientific research and space exploration, equipping major Government and commercial missions with advanced sensors and satellites, and providing AI&T technologies and mission management. Projects span planetary science, Earth observation, heliophysics, and astrophysics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (master’s degree or Ph.D. preferred)
  • Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Working knowledge as an Electrical Engineer with an emphasis in RF and related technologies
  • Demonstrated broad knowledge, understanding, and perspective of electrical systems and sensors
  • Anticipates risks and develops contingency plans to manage them
  • Ability to relate well to people at all levels inside and outside of the organization with the ability to preserve relationships, even under difficult or challenging circumstances
  • Ability to author written reports and/or professional papers in referred journals
  • Experience focusing on active RF hardware design at the individual component and PCB design.
  • Experience on the test bench to bring life to your designs and to integrate the designs with other team members’ designs.
  • Interest and knowledge of receiver and LNA design as well as transmitter and SSPA design is a minimum requirement.
  • Knowledge of switch mode power supplies, digital control systems, as well as the RF system testing of the individual subassemblies and final assemblies will be required.
  • A strong work ethic, curiosity, and intelligence will be utilized continuously.
  • Cooperation with others in the team and throughout the lab will be key to your success.

Responsibilities

  • Has technical responsibility for planning and conducting technical projects or phases of projects
  • Coordinates the efforts of technical support personnel, PCB Layout Designers, Technical Writers, and Electrical Technicians as required
  • Evaluates vendor capabilities to provide required products or services.
  • The ability to follow the leadership of more experienced engineers
