About The Position

The GG RF Engineer is a critical role responsible for designing, installing, and testing RF systems, with a focus on SATCOM components and devices operating in various frequency bands, including but not limited to S-band, C-band, X-band, Ku-band, and Ka-band. The successful candidate will be working on complex RF system design, installation, and test, and will be required to travel up to 15% worldwide. The RF Design Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our RF systems, from design to deployment, and will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure systems meet user requirements. The program performs the analysis, design, development, integration, test and deployment, securing, modernization, and operations and maintenance (O&M) and decommissioning activities of RF and optical capabilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college, or equivalent experience/combined education.
  • Ability to carry equipment, climb antennas, and rack hardware
  • Knowledgeable of RF design, installation, and test, with a focus on SATCOM systems
  • Travel up to 25% worldwide

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or similar field
  • RF test experience with Keysight PNA-X and Fieldfox, including familiarity with RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, and network analyzers
  • Familiarity with RF system design, including SATCOM components and devices, such as amplifiers, filters, and antennas
  • Experience with AutoCAD or Visio for system drawings and documentation
  • Understanding of antenna analysis, including G/T measurements, STK, antenna patterns, and link budget, with consideration for the effects of antenna pointing errors and polarization mismatch
  • Experience with power systems engineering, including power amplifiers, power supplies, and thermal management (Power/Space/Cooling)
  • Coding skills in Python or VBA for interaction and commanding RF components, including experience with APIs and scripting languages

Responsibilities

  • Design, install, and test RF systems, including SATCOM components and devices, utilizing knowledge of RF principles and system design
  • Conduct site surveys, climb antennas, and rack hardware as required, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and regulations
  • Utilize RF test equipment such as Keyband PNA-X, Fieldfox, Spec-A, Sig-Gen, and O-Scopes to test and measure RF system performance, including spectral analysis, modulation analysis, and bit error rate (BER) testing
  • Measure and analyze S-parameters, P1dB, TOI, NF, Phase Noise, and Group Delay, with consideration for the impact of non-linear effects, such as intermodulation distortion and spectral growth
  • Familiarity with signal processing techniques, including filtering, amplification, and frequency conversion, as applied to SATCOM signal chains
  • Create system drawings and documentation using AutoCAD or Visio, including block diagrams, schematics, and layout drawings
  • Understand and apply link budget analysis, antenna patterns, and G/T measurements, with consideration for the effects of noise, interference, and multipath on system performance
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including system architects, and project managers, to ensure systems meet user requirements and are delivered on schedule
