About The Position

MACOM is seeking an RF & Electrical Engineering Intern to join the millimeter-wave module design team at MACOM’s Northampton, MA Center of Excellence. This is a summer internship position focused on the additive manufacturing of RF absorptive materials and materials measurement. Interns will receive mentorship and guidance from experienced engineers, with a focus on professional growth and a rewarding, challenging experience. The project involves creating a procedure for 3D printing of RF absorptive materials, designing fixtures for material parameter measurement, and measuring these materials at various millimeter-wave frequencies. MACOM is a global leader in advanced semiconductor products for Data Centers, Telecommunications, Industrial, and Aerospace and Defense markets, developing innovative technologies in RF, microwave, millimeter wave, photonics, and high-speed analog. During the 12-week internship, each intern will be assigned an individual, well-defined project with set outcome goals. They will gain hands-on experience, receive excellent training and ongoing supervision, and participate in an intern webinar series, networking/social events, and a Poster Session to present their project successes and challenges. Formal, written feedback will be provided.

Requirements

  • Student working towards a BS or MS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Familiarity with Solidworks™ or Auto CAD™ for designing fixtures
  • Familiarity with Ansys HFSS™ for simulation of RF performance
  • Measurement of RF parameters in a connectorized or waveguide environment using network analyzers and related test equipment
  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing processes
  • Mathematical and data analysis using tools such as MATLAB or Python
  • Creation of schematics and BOM’s

Nice To Haves

  • We do not expect candidates to have experience with all the tools or tasks listed - familiarity with a few and a willingness to learn is what matters most.

Responsibilities

  • Creation of a procedure for 3D printing of RF absorptive materials
  • Designing fixtures to measure the materials parameters
  • Measurement of the materials at various millimeter-wave frequencies
  • Analysis and comparison of measurement and modeling data

Benefits
