About The Position

Kilby Labs is seeking an engineer to develop innovative circuits and systems for wireless, RF, and mm-wave technologies for industrial, automotive, and communications applications. Kilby is an advanced research and product development support organization within Texas Instruments, chartered to define and develop innovative IP in collaboration with business units and customers. Engineers are expected to approach new and existing problems from different perspectives to create distinctive, breakthrough technologies, and to take on varied project work as needed, including system engineering, project planning, design, and post-silicon validation. The role involves leading RF, SerDes, and mm-wave IC design projects from definition through validation; architecting and designing RF and analog IP; guiding layout; defining characterization strategies; and supporting PCB development. The engineer will characterize IC RF and system-level performance, benchmark competitors and track research, balance innovation with timely silicon demonstrations, collaborate across technical and business teams, support technology transfer and productization, and liaise with universities on RF research projects.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. degree and at least 2 years of relevant work experience, or a Master's degree and at least 8 years of experience.
  • Hands-on experience developing RF, radio, radar, or SerDes products.
  • Understanding of and experience with RF design, including small- and large-signal simulations and electromagnetic modeling.
  • Proven track record as a strong team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in clocking circuits, including PLLs.
  • Expertise in RF front-ends and/or high-speed broadband circuits.
  • Experience with CMOS, SiGe HBT, and III-V technologies.
  • Hands-on experience characterizing and debugging RF circuits and systems, including de-embedding methods and use of RF instrumentation.
  • Strong time-management skills that enable on-time project delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, influential relationships.
  • Good listening skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design of RF, SerDes, and mm-wave ICs, with project ownership from definition through validation.
  • Architect and design RF and analog IPs, simulate them, and guide their layout.
  • Define characterization strategies and guide PCB development.
  • Characterize ICs for RF and system-level performance using probed or packaged measurements.
  • Conduct competitive benchmarking and track current research in RF, wireless, wireline, and mm-wave systems.
  • Balance innovation with execution to ensure IPs are demonstrated in silicon in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate closely with Process, Packaging, business-unit partners, and other Kilby team members.
  • Support technology transfer and productization of innovative IP developed by the team.
  • Serve as an industry champion and liaison for university research projects related to RF technologies.
