About The Position

The Rework Grinder's primary mission is to remove surface and subsurface defects from castings to ensure they meet customer specifications. This role involves meticulous grinding and blending of defect areas and welds to precise blueprint tolerances. The position also includes inspection duties to verify compliance with customer specifications, requiring the use of various measuring instruments and inspection techniques. Additionally, the Rework Grinder is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and may be required to handle hazardous waste. Training is provided on the job, with preferred qualifications including Rework Analyst, Visual Dimensional, and Penetrant Inspection Courses.

Requirements

  • Grinding skills and working knowledge of grinding tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Basic ability to follow instructions, read, write, and perform arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to use and read dimensional tools including calipers, gauges, and micrometers.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow specifications on Tech Cards and Process Control Procedures.
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing thirty to fifty pounds and occasionally up to eighty pounds.
  • Ability to work in difficult working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, awkward physical positions and other elements for extended periods of time.
  • Individuals may have contact with or be required to handle hazardous waste.
  • If a tight-fitting respirator is required, facial hair, temple pieces on glasses or other items that interferes with the face-to-face piece seal of the respirator are not permitted.

Nice To Haves

  • Rework Analyst, Visual Dimensional and Penetrant Inspection Courses preferred.
  • May be required to complete hazardous waste management training.

Responsibilities

  • Review inspection paperwork, sketches, and blueprints to determine grinding requirements.
  • Remove surface and blind cavity defects from castings using rotary files, burrs, abrasives, or belts.
  • Blend and rework repaired areas to specified tolerances.
  • Verify dimensional compliance using micrometers, calipers, and ultrasonic testing devices.
  • Perform fluorescent penetrant inspection tests to verify defect removal.
  • Complete logs and records.
  • Provide work direction and training to junior-level grinders as assigned.
  • Adhere to plant and department safety rules.
  • Safely operate all equipment and tools.
  • Identify and report safety problems.
  • Handle hazardous waste as required.
