About The Position

Anne Arundel County Government is currently hiring for a full-time, permanent Review Analyst (Planning Technician II) position in the Office of Inspections and Permits. This is specialized technical work in the development, maintenance, and revision of basic planning and zoning and related information. Work involves responsibility either for recording and controlling the orderly processing of subdivision proposals and certain allied waiver requests, or for developing and extending an orderly system of street names and building numbering throughout the County. Work involves frequent contact with subdividers and property owners in explaining program objectives and requirements and in advising them of changes proposed or required. Work follows established policies and procedures, to the development of which these employees are expected to contribute. Work is evaluated through observation and review of recommendations and reports or other work products.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in planning, subdivision control, and zoning enforcement work.
  • A valid non-commercial Class C motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Knowledge of zoning classifications and setback requirements.
  • Ability to interpret site and construction plans to ensure compliance with the Code.
  • Ability to interpret Code requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret maps and subdivision plans.
  • Ability to write and speak effectively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Maintaining effective work relationships with other employees and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) or more years of experience in permitting, land development, or the construction-related industry.
  • Experience and knowledge of reading and interpreting sites, architectural plans, subdivision plans, and digital mapping systems.
  • Experience interpreting legal documents such as deeds or other land-related legal documents.
  • Experience and knowledge of the permit process.
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review commercial and residential building permit applications for compliance with County zoning and subdivision regulations.
  • Review grading permit applications for completeness and issued accordingly.
  • Assess the assessment of development impact fees, permit application fees, and grading securities as required by the County Code.
  • Review of documents submitted as a permit approval requirement for legality and expediting for review and approval from the Department.
  • Effectively communicate with property owners, County employees, and design professionals regarding permit-related matters.
  • Maintain grading permit records and the tracking of legal documents during the approval process.
  • Draft legal documents for review and approval by the Department as a permit approval requirement.
  • Performs related tasks as required.
