We are hiring multiple Local Government Services Specialists Is (Revenue Tax Specialist I) for our Local Tax Allocation Division located in Springfield, IL. The successful candidates will be responsible for processing correspondence, reviewing annexations, verifying tax locations, and analyzing remittance reports to verify the accuracy of records prior to the Division allocating funds to local governments. Attention to detail is highly desirable. Requirements

  • Requires successful completion of the Revenue Tax Specialist Trainee program, which entails 12 months of agency training, and either: knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of college; OR four years of work experience providing tax related support functions within a program area at the Illinois Department of Revenue.
  • Requires the ability to successfully complete a fingerprint-based background check and tax clearance.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to use and secure a state issued mobile device, e.g., cellular phone, laptop computer, table, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Under general supervision, reviews and analyzes allocation issues and problems regarding disbursement of local tax.
  • Reviews local government ordinances for comparison with IDOR records to verify compliance with statutes.
  • Confers in person, by telephone and written correspondence with local government officials, taxpayers, accountants, attorneys and others to resolve taxable location conflicts or to confirm data in connection with taxable location research, various tax disbursements, statutory taxable location investigations and/or the result of taxable location investigations.
  • Compiles and prepares a variety of technical tax and financial related reports as directed by the supervisor.
  • Attends and participates in workshops for local officials and IDOR personnel designed to provide interpretation of rules and regulations regarding the disbursement of taxes.
  • Works closely with higher level staff on procedures and test teams.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
