About The Position

The Utah State Tax Commission's Tax and Revenue Functional Area is looking for a skilled and motivated individual to fill its Tax Specialist I position. This person will play an integral role in our mission to answer taxpayer inquiries. You must be current on your state and federal tax filings and pass a criminal background check. This role offers an opportunity to increase your knowledge of Utah tax law, serve the public, and work in a fast-paced setting with a team of talented and dedicated individuals.

Requirements

• Must be current on state and federal tax filings
• Must pass a criminal background check
• Has accounting, finance or business experience
• Has exceptional customer service skills
• Is very detail oriented

Nice To Haves

• Two years of experience in tax, accounting, banking, law or investigative work.
• One year of education in a related field may substitute for each year of required experience.

Responsibilities

• Conduct exams and/or research assignments
• Answer phone calls and provide information to customers
• Research and respond to taxpayer inquiries, problems and concerns both verbally and in writing
• Research Utah State Tax law and regulations
• Provide general and complex information needed to resolve tax issues
• Enter and retrieve information from different systems
• Make and complete adjustments to individual or business accounts
• Explain and apply policies and procedures to taxpayers
• May require working in a contact center (call center)
• Process audits in an agency specific program
• Assist managers and division directors with their work needs
• Process audit payments
