About The Position

This position focuses on conducting field audits to ensure that taxpayers follow relevant tax laws and requirements. The work supports the Department’s mission of promoting fairness and accuracy in tax administration. As a Revenue Tax Auditor, you will perform the following duties: Audit Execution: Conduct fair and efficient audits within assigned tax programs Field Work: Work on site at taxpayer locations as needed to support audit progress Record Review: Analyze financial records to determine accurate tax liabilities Communication Tasks: Meet with taxpayer representatives to explain audit procedures and findings Report Preparation: Assemble audit reports, schedules, and narratives for supervisor review Guidance Delivery: Educate taxpayers on proper reporting methods and inform them of appeal procedures.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Revenue Tax Auditor Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or One year of professional accounting or auditing experience and a bachelor’s degree including or supplemented by 15 college credits in accounting, tax, or auditing; or Eligibility to sit for the Certified Public Accountant examination.
  • Candidate must reside in or be willing to relocate to Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry, Cumberland, Franklin, Adams, York, or Juniata county before the date of hire.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment.
  • Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
