About The Position

Reporting to the General Manager, the Revenue Director leads NJ PBS's fundraising, development, and earned-revenue strategy with the goal of building a financially resilient public media organization. This role oversees membership, major gifts, corporate underwriting, foundation grants, and planned giving programs, and is responsible for growing a diversified revenue base that sustains the public media organization’s journalism, programming, and community engagement missions while reducing long-term dependency on state appropriations. NOTE: Hiring is contingent upon the execution of the contract between the State of New Jersey and Montclair State University.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in the communications, media, or related industry.
  • Demonstrated experience leading nonprofit development or media revenue operations, including individual giving, corporate underwriting, and foundation grants.
  • Experience managing multi-million dollar fundraising programs and diverse revenue portfolios.

  • Familiarity with the New Jersey philanthropic and corporate landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute a comprehensive revenue strategy encompassing individual giving, membership, corporate underwriting, foundation grants, major gifts, and planned giving.
  • Oversee on-air and digital membership drives, pledge campaigns, and year-round membership stewardship efforts.
  • Lead outreach to corporate sponsors and underwriters; develop competitive sponsorship packages in compliance with FCC underwriting regulations.
  • Identify, cultivate, and manage relationships with private foundations, community foundations, and government grant programs.
  • Develop annual and multi-year revenue projections; track performance against goals.
  • Oversee donor database systems (CRM) to ensure accurate record-keeping, segmentation, and donor communications.
  • Supervise the Membership manager, underwriting representative, and major gifts officer.
  • Lead efforts to build an operating reserve and execute a path toward financial independence from state appropriations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.
