About The Position

The Revenue Cycle Training & Quality Specialist delivers training to assigned Revenue Cycle areas (Billing & Collections, Denials, Payment Posting, Refunds, Customer Service, Charge Entry, Home Health Billing/Intake) as well as any other roles enterprise wide that requires knowledge of Charges and/or Revenue Cycle. This includes training new members, new processes, and new functionality of the systems used by the team, along with other department training topics as assigned. The Revenue Cycle Training and Quality Specialist assists with ongoing education, training, and monitoring of all roles that require revenue cycle education. The Revenue Cycle Training & Quality Specialist will conduct audits on assigned staff and provide a scorecard to their direct supervisor monthly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent Required
  • 4-6 years experience in healthcare, with extensive hands-on experience working with commercial, government, billing or reimbursement process Required
  • 1-3 years EHR experience in revenue cycle Required
  • Knowledge of hospital and professional billing, and reimbursement requirements, and standard practice.
  • Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS and revenue codes and their effect on reimbursement.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, facilitation, presentation, and listening skills.
  • Basic knowledge of the concept of managed care and payor reimbursement methodologies
  • Ability to effectively present standard presentations, and developing new methods and procedures.
  • Microsoft Office Skills: Excell, Word, Visio, PowerPoint.
  • Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills.
  • Organized, self-motivated and able to work independently of direct supervision to carry out responsibilities.
  • Ability to provide a pleasant and welcoming appearance to all with which you come in contact and proven ability to work effectively with others.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in relevant field preferred
  • 1-3 years exprience training Preferred
  • EPIC Credentialed Trainer preferred

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for mastering Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other computer system applications along with the specific workflows of assigned application(s)
  • Develop and maintain training schedule and employee transcript, coordinating course offerings within operational needs and schedules
  • Effectively communicate to diverse groups and individuals through strong written, speaking and listening skills
  • Maintain a supportive learning environment that encourages interactivity and promotes the positive culture at Children’s
  • Facilitate end user training on the proper use of EHR applications or other department related topics in a classroom setting using exceptional presentation skills
  • Apply adult learning principles to deliver a variety of training programs that achieve all aspects of the learning process
  • Discern technical abilities and learning styles of class participants, and adjust training delivery to accommodate all learners
  • Assess learners’ comprehension through end user proficiency assessments and workflow performance within the EHR system
  • Participates in educational and leadership opportunities to enhance professional growth, and gain technical, and operational expertise
  • Conduct post class follow-up with students and/or leadership to assess the effectiveness of all courses presented, making necessary changes when identified
  • Analyze and translate workflow and documentation requirements for business processes into efficient and effective application systems solutions with leadership
  • Leverage workflow knowledge to collaborate with Certified trainer to develop, maintain, and update tip sheets or other learning documents and communication
  • Encourage the use and development of the EHR system functionality to optimize its full capacity
  • Promotes opportunities for continuous process improvement regarding workflow and system initiatives
  • Monitors work for accuracy and assures corrections are made to ensure patient account is accurate.
  • Audits a minimum of 10 accounts per month for all team members within assigned area to ensure they continue to meet quality expectations.
  • Works in collaboration with supervisors and managers to ensure performance improvement plan is put in place for all staff not meeting quality expectations.
  • Evaluates and reports common error and system limitations
  • Sends updates as needed to ensure all changes/common errors are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Assumes responsibility for initial training for Revenue Cycle functions and EPIC processes once the team member reports to the department.
  • Train all new staff on operational parts of training in person and via cornerstone classes.
  • Evaluate new staff by auditing 100% of patients until they meet quality expectations. This will be done in collaboration with manager/supervisor.
  • Review 100% audits with new staff regularly to mitigate future errors/habits.
  • Develops a collaborative working relationship with leads, IT, department, supervisors, and managers to ensure changes/upgrades are communicated in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the design, build, and testing of IT applications with implementation resources to assure understanding of application functionality and workflow for optimal training development.
  • Maintains tracking system for high impact errors and forwards data to appropriate supervisor/manager for use in Annual Evaluation.
  • Provides monthly feedback to supervisors so they can provide feedback to employees.
  • Create and maintain training materials/manuals and curriculum for operational trainings.
  • Works with Certified technical trainer to determine methods for continued education of staff.
  • Creates departmental resource guides and ensures as changes occur the resource guide is updated in a timely manner.
