About The Position

Alerus is a commercial wealth bank and national retirement provider focused on helping clients achieve their financial goals. This role involves growing and supporting advisor relationships, serving as a point of contact for escalations, meeting upsell goals, managing fund changes, fee negotiations, reporting and data feed requests, conducting non-fiduciary investment reviews, fee benchmarking, and plan design discussions. For direct plans, responsibilities include completing plan reviews and leading participant education and enrollment support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of seven years’ of experience in the retirement industry.
  • In depth knowledge of investments and fee schedules.
  • In depth knowledge of retirement plan structure.
  • Ability to present in a professional manner to all levels of knowledge among clients.
  • Good written/oral communication, organization, and client service skills required.
  • Ability to maintain professional working relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities.
  • Ability to interpret documents and resolve technical problems.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Available to work overtime to cover peak workloads and other business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage, analyze, and retain a portfolio of business clients to provide knowledgeable advanced solutions by delivering a high level of financial product expertise and support.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with client influencers/decision makers to understand their goals/objectives and identify service concerns.
  • Proactively and consistently present Alerus value proposition.
  • Apply advanced investment knowledge including understanding of markets, basic economic data, asset classes, models, CIFS and target date funds.
  • Proactively employ/share technical knowledge of and experience with ERISA and retirement plan industry with clients and intermediaries while conducting regular plan, investment and service reviews.
  • Act as the primary Advisor contact or Sponsor contact for direct plans.
  • Travel to client locations for education as needed.
  • Be assigned a book of plans, based on advisor relationship.
  • Be responsible for helping to support and grow advisor relationships.
  • Provide and execute an education plan for retirement plan participants utilizing multiple delivery formats including on-site group meetings, individual meetings, webinars, print materials and recorded presentations.
  • Proactively demonstrate ability to engage and interact with varying audience types including plan participants, plan sponsors, investment committees, and peer groups.
  • Review fee schedules and structure with clients.
  • For direct business, be responsible for improving overall plan health through participant education and enrollment support and growing the client relationship with Alerus.
  • Handle all escalations and be responsible for client/advisor retention.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to research and resolve client issues.
