About The Position

The New York City Police Pension Fund (NYCPPF or the “Fund”) is dedicated to providing superior service to its 33,000 active members and 53,000 retired members of the New York City Police Department. The Retirement Processing Unit is responsible for scheduling sessions, preparing the details of a member’s retirement and includes pension calculations, rollovers, post-retirement paperwork, etc. They are the first and last phase of the retirement process before a member separates from service. Under the direction of the Supervisor(s) of the Retirement Processing Unit, this candidate will be responsible for performing work as described below.

Requirements

High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

Responsibilities

Performs moderately complex data entry, record maintenance, and information retrieval using Microsoft Excel, Word, the Comprehensive Officer Pension System (COPS), and other computer-based systems;
Calculate retirement benefits by determining eligibility, tier status, service credit, benefit amounts, final withdrawals, and tax implications;
Assist members with pension applications and ensure all required forms are complete and accurate;
Review and process retirement documents for accuracy and completeness;
Maintain, update, and research member records while ensuring confidentiality;
Responds to member inquiries by telephone and other communication channels in a professional, courteous, and timely manner, ensuring information provided is clear, concise, and accurate; escalates complex matters to appropriate personnel when necessary;
Serve as the Help Desk Liaison and assist with system-related support when assigned;
Maintain knowledge of retirement policies, procedures, and applicable laws;
Work on special projects as designated by Supervisor(s) of unit.
