About The Position
The Seasonal Peak Associate role at Ocean State Job Lot (OSJL) is a temporary seasonal position supporting essential store operations, including register support, freight receiving, and product merchandising in designated areas. The role contributes to a positive customer experience and efficient store operations in a fast-paced environment during peak seasons and in newly opened stores. Associates provide customer service, process transactions, assist with merchandise and purchases, promote customer initiatives, maintain displays and assigned areas, receive and organize deliveries, move fixtures, follow safety protocols, and help keep the store clean and organized. Work takes place across sales, stockroom/receiving, and operations or office areas, which may vary in temperature, dust, and accessibility.
Requirements
- Basic math and reading skills.
- Legible handwriting.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to perform physical activities including using hand tools, climbing or descending a ladder, moving, reaching, and lifting frequently.
- Ability to lift 35 pounds on a regular basis.
Nice To Haves
- Prior merchandise receiving, handling, and stocking experience in retail or warehouse environments is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide exceptional service, build friendly rapport by exemplifying the T.R.E.A.T. model, and foster a welcoming environment.
- Operate a cash register efficiently, handle transactions accurately, and help customers with product inquiries, item locations, and purchases.
- Promote Company-wide customer initiatives, including donations, loyalty programs, and special offers.
- Maintain accurate displays, restock assigned areas, and meet OSJL merchandising standards.
- Unload deliveries according to Company processes, organize merchandise, and prepare it for the sales floor.
- Safely set up and move fixtures as needed.
- Collaborate effectively and independently to achieve goals, and proactively communicate opportunities for improvement to store leadership.
- Understand, support, and implement store safety protocols.
- Maintain a neat, organized, and safe environment through regular cleaning and janitorial tasks.
