About The Position

This part-time position involves greeting customers, completing fast and friendly transactions, and supporting Goodwill's mission. Key responsibilities include handling cash, offering to round up transactions, and providing excellent customer service. The role requires maintaining an organized sales floor, operating a point-of-sale (POS) system accurately, and performing opening and closing procedures. Associates will also be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, assisting customers with inquiries, and potentially cross-training in other departments. The position emphasizes accuracy with numbers, basic math skills, and effective communication.

Requirements

  • Must be accurate with numbers and general calculations and understand the value of different coins and United States (US) currency.
  • Must be able to use basic math such as adding, subtracting, and multiplication.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with customers, managers, supervisors, staff, and peers.
  • Must be able to operate a computer-based cash register and credit card machine.
  • Must be able to withstand prolonged standing, bending, and lifting up to eight (8) hours per day.
  • Ability to see color for accurate transactions.
  • Must be able to work a varied schedule to include weekends, evenings, and holidays with occasional overtime as necessary.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong cash handling skills are highly preferred.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year of retail sales or cash handling experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Providing exceptional customer service by greeting customers in a welcoming manner and responding timely and professionally to customer inquiries.
  • Operating a point-of-sale (POS) cash register system to ensure the quality of product and pricing are accurate at the time of purchase.
  • Maintaining a well-stocked and organized sales floor that meets company standards.
  • Verification of till counts, providing accurate cashier transactions, and maintaining a balanced cash drawer using a computer-based point-of-sale system.
  • Driving the roundup initiative by engaging customers and sharing knowledge of the mission it supports.
  • Providing assistance to customers with questions, concerns, and purchases.
  • Completion of opening and closing procedures.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized sales floor by regularly cleaning and organizing shelves and racks, picking items up off the floor, putting away product from racks, carts, or baskets, as well as putting away returned or unwanted items.
  • Providing a safe, clean, organized, and well stocked POS, sales floor, and restrooms.
  • Initiating customer delight/power hour calls over intercom to organize and clean sales floor.
  • Following all retail center policies and procedures.
  • Following all safety processes and procedures to help provide a safe working environment for employees and customers.
  • Cross-training in other departments or areas; acting as a back-up for other areas as required.
  • Job duties may extend beyond the tasks listed and may include additional responsibilities as required.
