About The Position

The purpose of this position is to act as the face of Down To Earth, offering an enriching shopping experience for our customer base. This role involves providing top-notch customer service and facilitating sales through customer education and product expertise, all while supporting the company culture and business mission. Additionally, this position is responsible for maintaining inventory levels on the sales floor, keeping displays stocked and presentable, observing for shoplifting, and maintaining the cleanliness of the merchandise. Finally, this position handles administrative duties including cashiering and answering phones.

Requirements

Previous retail experience.
High School Degree or equivalent degree.
General ability to problem-solve.
Basic math skills.
Proficiency in the written and spoken English language.
Ability to be standing/mobile for extended periods of time.
Ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to move throughout the retail location.
Ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds.
Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.
Visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read a computer screen.

Nice To Haves

Garden and Nursery Sales Associates require additional expertise in plant identification and organic plant care.
Housewares Sales Associates require knowledge of cooking, baking, fermentation, canning & food preservation and houseplant knowledge & care.

Responsibilities

Greet every customer who comes into our store with a warm welcoming smile.
Facilitate sales on the sales floor.
Provide top-notch customer service.
Work as part of a team to educate customers about products and their intended use.
Answer customer questions or direct them to the appropriate employee.
Perform cashiering duties.
Politely answer phones and direct customer inquiries.
Stock product on shelves and maintain displays and product presentation.
Price and merchandise product under the direction of the departmental supervisor.
Maintain the cleanliness and organization of merchandise and back stock areas.
Observe for shoplifting.
Perform bi-annual inventory duty.
Communicate, integrate, and interact in a productive and respectful manner with all staff, customers, and vendors.
Move or transport up to 50 lbs.
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the needs of the business are met.
Work in any department as directed by the Manager on Duty.
Follow all company policies and ensure other employees do the same.
Report safety issues and concerns to the safety committee.
Report employee accidents and customer incidents on proper forms.
Ensure the general cleanliness and appearance of the retail store.
Maintain the cleanliness of shared break areas, break rooms, and restrooms.
Maintain minimum 36” clearance in aisles for wheelchair access.
Follow DTE dress code, including wearing name tags and proper DTE attire.
