As a Retail Selling Colleague in Macy’s women’s shoes department, you combine results-focused selling with genuine hospitality to create memorable shopping experiences. You learn about customers’ needs, offer personalized recommendations, share product and service information, and work toward sales goals by engaging customers and using effective selling behaviors. You also acquire new customers by opening credit accounts and sharing loyalty program benefits. The role is more than operating a register: customer service, relationship-building, teamwork, and creating a welcoming environment are central to the work. You help keep the sales floor and fitting rooms clean, organized, and inviting by recovering merchandise, updating signs and prices, and supporting merchandise moves. You stay informed about sales goals, new arrivals, popular items, trends, and promotions. Schedules depend on business needs and colleague availability; part-time colleagues are typically scheduled 12–24 hours per week, and all schedules include weekend shifts. The position involves frequent use of computers and other technology, including handheld equipment and cash registers. Physical duties include talking, lifting, constant movement, standing, reaching, and using ladders. The role requires standing for at least two consecutive hours and lifting at least 25 pounds, as well as stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are also required.
