The Retail Pharmacy Technician assists licensed pharmacists in technical duties related to the preparation and distribution of medications. This role involves accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling medications, including hazardous drugs and controlled substances. The technician will also assist with medication distribution tasks, screen phone calls, and manage daily pharmacy procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Responsibilities may include completing documentation for controlled substances, performing nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards, inspecting medication storage areas, and completing medication admission histories. The technician is expected to seek additional duties when work is completed and may assist in training other technicians. They must abide by all organization policies and procedures and comply with all legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. The role supports area leaders and involves patient demographic information, data entry, insurance verification, label generation, and cashiering. Competence in third-party billing functions is required. The technician must demonstrate age-appropriate patient care skills and may obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Additionally, the role may involve operating an Advocate Health-owned vehicle to deliver medications and supplies.
