About The Position

Under direct supervision, performs tasks involved in the preparation and distribution of medications checked by a licensed Pharmacist. Responsibilities are divided into two phases: prior to receiving an Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy Technician Permit, and after receipt of the permit. The role involves a range of tasks from clerical and inventory control to direct medication preparation, IV admixture, and assisting with automated dispensing machines and sterile compounding.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 0-3 years of experience.
  • Active permit as a Pharmacy Technician by the Oklahoma State Board of Pharmacy or ability to achieve permit within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of general science and math.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.
  • Good interpersonal skills for developing effective working relationships with staff and coworkers.
  • Good computer skills.

  • Immunization Administration Certificate
  • If technician holds an Immunization Administration Certification, BLS certification will be required.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieve prescriptions or files as necessary.
  • Clerical tasks such as data entry, typing labels and maintaining patient profiles.
  • Secretarial tasks such as telephoning, filing, and typing.
  • Accounting tasks such as record keeping, maintaining accounts receivables, third party billing and posting.
  • Inventory control tasks including monitoring, pricing, dating, invoicing, stocking pharmacy, and preparation of purchase orders.
  • Help maintain a clean and orderly pharmacy.
  • Place properly packaged medication in labeled containers to be verified by a Doctor of Pharmacy, subsequent to verified order entry.
  • Transport completed medication order to designated pick-up site as needed.
  • Refill patient medication cassettes.
  • Participate in restocking of automated dispensing machines subject to verification by DPh and file reports as needed.
  • Deliver IV fluids to patient care areas and retrieve unused/unneeded IV fluids for return to pharmacy unit.
  • Perform light housekeeping duties.
  • Restock returned meds.
  • Prepare IV admixtures and document work.
  • Set up IV compounder.
  • Prepare batch preparation of sterile items.
  • Assist in the maintenance of IV room/preparation area stock of IV base fluids and additives.
  • Assist with Automated Dispensing machine set-up and coordination.
  • Provide training and onboarding of other technicians.
  • Fill request for floor stock medications and document completion of order.
  • Assist with keeping log of medications and supplies that need to be reordered.
  • Participate in debit/credit routines for pharmacy charges to help ensure the patient receives a timely and accurate bill.
  • Assist in receiving, checking in and shelving of medications when received from vendors.
  • Assist in the stock replenishment of decentralized/satellite pharmacy units as requested.
  • Rotate stock as needed to reduce outdating.
  • Maintain IV room/preparation area stock of IV base fluids and additives.
  • Rotate stock consistently to avoid outdating.
  • File patient specific physician orders.
  • Prepare verification of use forms, drug supply and maintain PC-based inventory database for Controlled Dangerous Substances.
  • Participate in daily physical count and report unreconciled pharmacy stock discrepancies to the Pharmacy Supervisor or Director immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
