About The Position

Join the MercyOne Family! We are looking to hire a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee. As a Retail Pharmacy Tech Trainee at MercyOne, Reports to the Lead Pharmacist or in their absence, the Retail Pharmacy Supervisor. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, assists in the provision of pharmaceutical care to patients ranging in age from newborns to geriatrics. Tasks require a moderate amount of independent judgement, an advanced level of technical knowledge, and a high degree of accuracy.

Requirements

• Must be competent and accurate with performing math calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, divisions, percentages, fractions and the metric system.
• Must demonstrate the ability to exercise professional judgment in dealing with pharmacy’s customers.
• Must be competent and thorough in performing job functions to all age groups.
• Must display satisfactory customer relation skills consistent with Mercy’s mission, values and expectations.
• Must display behavior consistent with Pharmacy Citizenship Standards.
• Must effectively utilize verbal and written communication skills.
• Must be able to organize, prioritize, and function in an environment with multiple stress factors.
• Must be competent with all hospital and pharmacy information system programs that pharmacy utilizes.
• Must be 17 years of age or older and eligible to sit for the national technician certification exam within 1 year of hire.
• Registration with Iowa Board of Pharmacy prior to start of employment.
• Pass the test for and maintain national technician certification as outlined by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy within 1 year of employment. If unable to pass the test within 1 year of employment, the employee will need to be terminated from the pharmacy technician trainee position.
• A minimum of three months of “on the job” training is required to perform the job; 12-24 months is usually required to become proficient.
