Retail Pharmacy Intern
About The Position
Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service in a retail pharmacy. Fills and processes prescriptions in accordance with state and federal statutes and regulations under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. The role also supports pharmacy inventory, employee training, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and the cleanliness and security of the pharmacy. The intern maintains confidentiality of customers’ private medical information under HIPAA and of prescription drug pricing and costs. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen.
Requirements
- Six months or less of similar or related work experience.
- Be enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy and registered with the State Pharmacy Board as an intern.
- Ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, communicate with people, interview, counsel or advise people, and evaluate technical data.
- Ability to perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of customers’ private medical information in accordance with HIPAA and of prescription drug pricing and costs.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced retail setting.
Responsibilities
- Fill and help process prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
- Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly service.
- Assist with inventory control by ordering and stocking merchandise, checking invoices, entering inventory information, and assisting with monthly inventory.
- Work with co-workers to follow standard operating procedures and facility policies.
- Prepare prescriptions and affix labels to prescription containers.
- Report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
- Assist in training employees.
- Follow security and regulatory procedures, including Quality Assurance Programs.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area and a professional appearance.
- Adhere to company policies and report to work as scheduled and on time.
- Assist in other store areas as needed and perform other job-related duties and special projects.
