About The Position

Retail Pharmacy Interns gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced retail pharmacy while working toward a pharmacy degree. Under the supervision of a registered pharmacist, they fill and process prescriptions, assist with inventory control and quality assurance, and support patient care. The role also involves serving customers, maintaining the pharmacy and dispensing area, protecting confidential information, and following applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Employment is contingent upon successfully completing a pre-employment drug screen.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited college of pharmacy.
Registered with the State Pharmacy Board as an intern.
Apply logical and scientific thinking to solve problems involving abstract and concrete variables.
Perform arithmetic, algebraic, and geometric calculations accurately.
Compose original correspondence, follow technical manuals, and evaluate technical data.
Counsel and advise customers and interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and team members.
Maintain discretion and integrity when handling confidential patient and financial information.
Ability to frequently stand and walk throughout a shift, including extended periods at a pharmacy counter or workstation.
Ability to count, pour, package, and label medications and fill prescriptions under pharmacist supervision.
Ability to perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with pharmacy work.

Six months or less of similar or related work experience.

Responsibilities

Provide prompt, friendly customer service and make customer interactions positive.
Fill and help process prescriptions under the supervision of a registered pharmacist and in accordance with state and federal statutes and regulations.
Prepare prescriptions and affix labels to prescription containers.
Report medication errors to appropriate personnel.
Assist with inventory control, including ordering and stocking merchandise, checking invoices, and entering inventory information.
Assist with monthly inventory and follow security and regulatory procedures, including Quality Assurance Programs.
Assist in training pharmacy employees.
Maintain cleanliness of the pharmacy and dispensing area.
Protect the confidentiality of customers' private medical information and prescription drug pricing in accordance with HIPAA.
Work with co-workers to follow standard operating procedures and facility policies.
Maintain a professional appearance.
Assist in other areas of the store and take on special projects as assigned.
Follow Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines.
Report to work as scheduled and on time.
