About The Position

A Critical Access Hospital in Alturas, California is seeking a licensed and experienced Retail Pharmacist to manage and oversee all aspects of outpatient and retail pharmacy operations. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, accurate, and compliant medication dispensing while maintaining adherence to all applicable state and federal regulations. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong clinical judgment, leadership capability, and the ability to efficiently manage pharmacy workflow in a community-based healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Active California Pharmacist License (Required)
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) from an ACPE-accredited institution
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification (Required)
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local pharmacy regulations
  • Solid understanding of retail and outpatient pharmacy operations
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in a retail or outpatient pharmacy setting preferred
  • Strong knowledge of prescription processing and medication safety protocols
  • Proven ability to manage workflow and supervise pharmacy support staff
  • Experience with pharmacy management systems and inventory control
  • Strong patient counseling and customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently in a small critical access hospital environment

Responsibilities

  • Accurately dispense and compound prescribed medications in accordance with established standards
  • Review prescriptions for correctness, dosage accuracy, drug interactions, and clinical appropriateness
  • Ensure full compliance with state, federal, and regulatory pharmacy laws and guidelines
  • Supervise pharmacy technicians and interns, ensuring appropriate workflow and staffing ratios
  • Provide comprehensive patient counseling on medication usage, side effects, and storage requirements
  • Manage controlled substances, including inventory control and medication security protocols
  • Maintain accurate pharmacy records, billing documentation, and electronic health system entries
  • Address third-party insurance rejections and resolve billing-related issues
  • Monitor, document, and report medication errors in accordance with policy
  • Oversee proper storage, handling, and disposal of medications and hazardous materials
  • Support retail pharmacy operations including customer service and revenue/expense management
  • Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to optimize patient care outcomes
  • Ensure adherence to all quality assurance and patient safety standards
  • Participate in continuing education to remain current with pharmacy regulations and best practices
  • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and operational efficiency of the pharmacy environment
