About The Position

Bon Appétit Management Company is seeking a passionate and service-driven Retail Manager to support café operations at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. This role is responsible for the daily management of a high-volume campus café, ensuring exceptional guest experiences, maintaining Bon Appétit standards, and leading a team focused on operational excellence. The Retail Manager will work closely with the General Manager, Catering Manager, and Culinary Team to deliver a welcoming dining environment, uphold food safety and sanitation standards, and ensure customer satisfaction across all service areas. Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of front-of-house management experience in a café, restaurant, hospitality, retail dining, higher education, or related foodservice environment.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, establish service expectations, and deliver exceptional guest experiences.
  • Experience training, coaching, and developing hourly employees.
  • Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations.
  • Experience managing cash handling, point-of-sale systems, and retail operations.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with culinary, catering, and operational teams.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Flexible schedule with the ability to support special events and operational needs as required.
  • ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in Hospitality, Business, Culinary Arts, or a related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of the campus café, ensuring efficient service, cleanliness, and adherence to standards.
  • Lead, coach, and supervise frontline team members, establishing clear expectations and fostering a culture of accountability and hospitality.
  • Train and develop staff on service standards, guest engagement, food safety, sanitation, and company policies and procedures.
  • Monitor guest satisfaction and proactively address concerns to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Partner with the Catering Manager and Culinary Team to coordinate service execution, menu offerings, and special events.
  • Ensure compliance with all health department regulations, food safety guidelines, and company policies.
  • Conduct regular inspections of service areas to maintain cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness.
  • Assist with scheduling, payroll administration, cash handling procedures, and labor management.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, coaching, and performance management of hourly team members.
  • Complete required operational reports, inventories, and administrative documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate cash controls and support financial performance objectives.
  • Assist with marketing initiatives, promotions, and campus engagement activities to enhance café participation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall success of the dining program.
