Requirements

  • High school education or the equivalent required.
  • Must have full knowledge of bookkeeping and accounting to maintain sales records and reports incidental to store operations.
  • Must be a person with excellent character references and a well-developed sense of responsibility.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.

  • Oversee store operation including inventory, warehouse and stock rotation in absent of all other management team.
  • Perform the basic store reports.
  • Provide supervision for all sales associates and follow cash handling procedures on a daily basis.
  • Set an example for his or her workers as a member of the management staff.
  • Personal conduct must reflect the high standards of integrity expected of all Goodwill staff personnel.
  • Exercise good judgement in handling the wide variety of day-to-day operational problems which arise continuously in store operation.
  • Must be thoroughly familiar and continually stress the Goodwill sales philosophy.
  • Perform those duties which are part of every day supervisory job.
  • Must be able to work Saturdays and Sundays and at least two nights a week.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have a telephone and maintain it in operating order within telephone company's maintenance capabilities.
  • Must be a licensed driver-must be insurable.
  • Must pass/complete background check.

Responsibilities

  • Open and close store.
  • Manage and operate a Goodwill Retail store while fulfilling Goodwill's mission statement.
  • Supervise the sales force and Sales Floor.
  • Sell merchandise as time permits.
  • Attend to and satisfy customer’s needs.
  • Handle customer complaints in a fair and impartial manner, coordinating as necessary.
  • Promote special events.
  • Receive and check incoming stock and supervise checkouts and stock transfers.
  • Check condition and placement of stock in a clean, neat, and orderly condition.
  • Suggest and maintain displays and advertising ideas and prepare and place signs in sales areas and Windows.
  • Responsible for wares department being clean, stocked and rotated on a daily basis.
  • Ensure merchandise is being marked to Goodwill Standards from the processing warehouse area.
  • Supervise store personnel and maintain projected sales goals.
  • Represent Goodwill in the area served, striving to enhance the Goodwill image through individual and group participation.
  • Maintain records of store operations as required.
  • Review and analyze sales to determine effectiveness of methods used and adequacy of prices.
  • Make recommendations to Area Manager and Vice President of Operations/Sales.
  • Help keep the store clean and attractive.
  • Perform all administrative and record keeping duties as required in store manager’s and/or assistant manager’s absence, including but not limited to preparing store report, making daily deposit, maintaining employee purchase forms.
  • Sort clothing and textiles items.
  • Bend or stoop to reach into bags or boxes which are 48” to 6’ off the floor to remove individual textile items.
  • Manually remove hangers, straight pins, labels from textiles items when required.
  • Visually and tacitly inspect items.
  • Judge whether or not item is salable using criteria established by company policy and procedure.
  • Place unassailable items (salvage) into appropriate container which may be movable carts or plastic bags.
  • Reach into carts as deep as 36”.
  • Lift textile items as high as 48” onto table.
  • Sort number and quality to textile items as specified by departmental procedure and policy.
  • Hang clothing items as soon as quality has been established.
  • Visually inspect item to determine appropriate type of hanger.
  • Reach with one arm to obtain correct plastic hanger between 9” and 15” long-which may or may not have metal clips.
  • Place item on hanger as required by departmental procedure.
  • Manually button, zip, or otherwise fasten item as appropriate, according to departmental procedure.
  • Turn around to place hung item on rack approximately 60” high.
  • Visually inspect clothing racks on sales floor.
  • Judge which racks are too full.
  • Stand beside racks that are 50 to 60 inches long.
  • Reach with arms to remove clothing items on hangers that are soiled, torn, or unsaleable.
  • Manually remove hangers from clothing items and place hanger into container which is approximately 12 to 24 inches from the floor.
  • Stand in front of bin table which is approximately 40” high.
  • Sort through clothing items in carts, plastic bags, or other containers.
  • Move containers weighing as much as 25 pounds to salvage area as far as 75 feet.
  • Push rolling rack approximately 60” high and 72” long of hanging clothing items as far as 50 feet to sales floor.
  • Reach with arms to remove clothing items on appropriate racks on sales floor as determined by company policy and procedure.
  • Clean wares shelves which are approximately 60” and, in sections, 4’ wide.
  • Dust shelves, manually remove broken, soiled, or otherwise unsaleable items and place in trash containers which may be barrels 36” high or boxes from 12 to 24 inches high.
  • Move containers to area designated for trash in the production which may be as far as 75 feet from the sales floor.
  • Reach into carts or boxes 12 to 40 inches from the floor.
  • Manually remove wares and electrical items weighing less than 1 to 15 pounds.
  • Place item on shelves from floor level to 60” high.
  • Place ties, belts, purses on specially designed fixtures according to departmental policy and procedure.
  • Push empty carts back to production area as far as 75 feet from sales floor.
  • Answer telephone.
  • Answer customer questions about basic store operations, such as hours open, merchandise available, but refer other requisitions to store manager.
  • Assist individuals making donations of a variety of miscellaneous items contained in bags, boxes, on hangers, or loose or donated as single items.
  • Assure that the appearance of the store and premises is presentable at all times.
  • Perform administrative and clerical details of store operation, such as; ordering, receiving, and disposing of mail, handling cash as directed by current procedures, etc.
  • Responsible for safety and well-being for all employees.
  • Safeguard the premises and material under his or her care at all times.
  • Seek to reduce the possibility of pilferage or burglary.
  • Constantly watch for fire hazards and unsafe conditions.
  • Greet customers.
  • Adhere to all ethical standards confidentiality of records.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and report violations.
  • Attend required meetings as required.
  • Support mission statement and activities of other departments.
  • Support the accessibility of our services and facilities free of architectural, attitudinal, environmental, financial, communication, transportation, employment and other barriers to person with disabilities and barriers to employment.
  • Count all monies for store operations.
  • Make bank deposits with own transportation daily.
  • Ensure safe and monies are locked up at all times when working with monies.
  • Drive to the bank to ensure secure delivery of bank deposits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
