About The Position

This position is part of the joint Retail/Housekeeping Department at Young Life's Lost Canyon. The role involves creating an environment where Young Life staff can present the gospel of Jesus Christ. The specialist will be responsible for spiritual formation, building interpersonal relationships, providing attentive hospitality, comprehensive stewardship of ministry resources, talent development, and embracing excellence in all duties. The role requires a commitment to Young Life's Christian mission and values, including ministering as a servant of God and proclaiming the gospel. The specialist will also assist with retail operations, including customer service, inventory management, and maintaining the appearance of retail centers, as well as housekeeping duties to ensure a clean and ready environment for guests. This position operates year-round with significant guest group usage from May to October and weekend groups throughout the school season. The camp is located in Williams, Arizona.

Requirements

  • Profess a belief in Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord.
  • Subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff, including the Young Life Statement of Faith.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions as may be required by the organization.
  • Refrain from conduct and statements that detract from the biblical standards taught and supported by Young Life.
  • Abide by all policies and practices of Young Life, including those related to religious belief or ministry activities.
  • Experience with cash handling preferred.
  • Experience training and leading teams.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in written and verbal communication with guests, vendors, and staff.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Young Life ministry, strategy, and mission.
  • Maintain ServSafe and First Aid/CPR certifications.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs, squat, kneel, and use ladders.
  • Ability to work evening and weekend shifts.
  • Ability to participate in camp events, including outdoor work environments.
  • Acquire proper knowledge and use of cleaning chemicals.

  • Develop and equip retail interns and volunteers to participate in comprehensive stewardship of retail centers.
  • Participate in system development for specific retail centers, including inventory management, order tracking, financial awareness (Concur), and retail center appearance.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using Point of Sale (Square), Office, Outlook, and other software applications required by the manager.
  • Develop understanding for equipment maintenance and operation as needed for retail centers.
  • Participate in weekly Guest Group Information meetings, developing appropriate retail hours based on guest group history and requests.
  • Utilize the LINK to schedule DIN, routine tasks, and preventative maintenance.
  • Through a consistent and accountable evaluation process, identify and provide opportunities for staff in continuing education, leadership development, career-pathing, and cross-training.
  • Demonstrate a desire to grow through engagement in the Individual Development Plan process and participation in training and development opportunities.
  • Develop understanding of operations in order to serve in the retail manager’s absence.
  • Execute daily responsibilities with attention to the standards and metrics required for excellent camp operations.
  • Ensure that retail areas are clean and ready for guests.
  • Ensure that stock and supplies are at levels to meet guest needs and sales.
  • Assist in re-orders as directed by the Retail Manager.
  • Receive merchandise for retail areas.
  • Demonstrate and train proper food handling and storage guidelines.
  • Assist in visual display of retail areas.
  • Participate in Young Life Pace Call trainings.
  • Engage with weekly camp meetings and spiritual development opportunities.
  • Maintain ServSafe and First Aid/CPR certifications.
